So. Cal. Region Picnic

2009

The Region Picnic was held in September 2008 at the Fred Hesse Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.  The park offered BBQ facilities and parking was very close.  Eldon & Connie Northrup, who selected this park, showed up early to reserve our space as no reservations ware available.

It was a good membership showing and several cars also made the trip.  Al & Corrine Potter also made it to the picnic, chauffeured by their son Steve.  A short walk from our picnic grounds provided a spectacular view of the Pacific ocean.  The park is located near the top of the PV Peninsula.

The crowd gets bigger.
Quite a car show for the park.

Lou Rupoli "dropped-in".  Lou is Fire Chief for the San Pedro facilities and owns several vintage Chevy's.  The '48 Fleetline above is the one he drove.  After purchasing this car he completely dismantled and reassembled it to the condition seen above.  Lou also was our contact several years ago for a Fire Boat Tour in San Pedro and has volunteered to host a similar event soon.

Alonso Guerrero also dropped by with 2 other couples after a tour he hosted at Ft. MacArthur in San Pedro.  The other couples, George & Jeanette Aust and George Edwards and son drove moderns.  The coals were still hot and food was still available for cooking.
Alonso is seen below and his beautiful '39 Sedan.  Above are his prize "skirts" for the rear wheels.  Very rare!
What is a picnic about if it isn't a NAP!
