Cruise-Cruise 2009

Another year with our Region's collaboration with Little Ships Fleet Yacht Club of Long Beach to have a great day on land, and on the water.  This Division 1 Tour is hosted by both organizations for the benefit of the Children's Clinic of Long Beach.  All donations made support the Clinic as they assist Children who have insufficient means of accessing medical attention.

The itinerary is the same each year where the vintage Chevy's meet at a local Mall parking lot and tour to Alamitos Bay to meet with the members of the Yacht Club.  Upon arrival the car-drivers pick up a load of yacht club members and drive a tour through nearby Seal Beach.   This becomes the initial portion of Cruise-Cruise.  Several cars participated and probably the hit car was George Edwards (Sr. and Jr.) 1937 Coupe with a rumble seat.  The Edward's have participated on all the previous Cruise's but I guess they never folded out their rumble seat as many wanted that little extra thrill.

After our land-cruise all the boat captains were introduced and a short "champagne toast" was made to a successful sea-cruise.  Everyone lined up and went down to the sea.  Most sea cruises lasted about an hour around Long Beach Harbor.   These boat captains are much  like vintage car drivers, once they get out on the water under full sail, they want to make an afternoon of it.  Upon returning to land, the Little Ship's members had a BBQ waiting and all indulged, except for the two-hour boat which missed the BBQ and got back after most had left.

Meeting location at Cerritos Mall. l to r. Bob Jeppesen (Chevelle), Jim Lundal (Chev Bel Air), and a Chevelle owner drove his T-Bird.
George Edward's (Sr. & Jr. from the Foothill Region) 1937 Coupe.  Jim Gilleand drove his '57 Nomad.
So. Cal. Region member Richard Lacourse drove his '38 Coupe.
Bob Jeppesen directs drivers meeting.  Bob is a So. Cal. Region VCCA member and invited his Chevelle Club to participate.
Two Captains ready for their Land Cruise in the Edwards '37 Coupe.
Enthusiastic sailors ready for their Land Cruise through Seal Beach.  The car is driven by owner Jim Lundal.
Little Ships Fleet Yacht Club of Long Beach share facilities with the Navy Yacht Club.
A toast prior to boarding with the Captains.
9 Boats were available for boarding.
So. Cal. Region Member Connie Northrup "white knuckle's" the tiller on the way through the channel.
After cruising in the rumble seat of a '37 Coupe (above) it was full sail on their 40 ft. boat.
No more "white knuckle's" and wearing the Captains Hat, VCCA member Connie Northrup has successfully sailed and brought the ship back safely.
Once returning to shore, a BBQ hamburger and chicken dinner was waiting for everyone.
Another great day with Little Ships and So. Cal. Region.
The Southern California Region would like to extend a hearty THANKS to the Little Ships Fleet Yacht Club for all their work on this tour.  Naturally, it would not have occurred at all if it wasn't for their boats and boat owners participation.  Our Region hopes that the Little Ships Fleet got some enjoyment out of giving so much enjoyment to our members.  Thanks Again!
